You Didn’t Listen

I stood out from the crowd
tried to communicate by sharing a sound
but, you didn’t listen

burnt an effigy deep into my flesh
let it heal, yet retained the poison
still, you didn’t listen.

I cut away at my skin
hoping to oust the beast within
yet, you didn’t listen

as I fell you were not around
my agonised screams were so loud
though, you didn’t listen.

Bleeding, needing, hoping, loving
sliding, crying and very nearly dying
how come, you didn’t listen?

Falsely claiming you’d die for me
you were impervious as I neared fatality
never understood why, you didn’t listen
