I sit in my glass chamber,
a casual observer of the world outside,
happy to be fed and nurtured,
yet, my tail is coiled ready just in case.
Kept well and without aggression disturbing my habitat,
I am beautiful and unlikely to cause harm.
But, if you shake or poke me sharply with a stick,
I’ll recoil, attacking with my poisoned tail,
snapping down hard,
at your interference,
brutal and without warning,
I will bring you pain.
